Overview
I decided to research the biblical practice of anointing with
oil since many churches have stopped this practice. Many churches pray over sick people with the
laying on of hands but they never anoint with oil. Last year I saw a new pastor get confirmed at
church; however he was not anointed with oil. Why has this practice stopped? Is this a fulfillment
of prophecy? I do not know.
“Thou
shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt press the olive, but thou shalt
not anoint
thyself with oil; and shalt make wine, but ye shall drink no wine:
and the ordinances of my people shall be utterly abolished.” Sep Mic
6:15
I did some research and found that the ancient practice of anointing
the sick with oil was always in the form of the mark called the ‘Tau’ also
known as the cross. I also learned
during my study that Christian marriages, baptism and the coronation of a king or queen use to include anointing with the mark of the ‘Tau’.

I have documented verses below for
all types of anointing from the bible.
Plus I have researched old newspapers and old prayer books to learn more
about anointing. First though, here are some important definitions from my old
Webster’s dictionary that was entered under an Act of Congress in 1890 and was
copyrighted in 1913.
The Tau
The ‘tau’ symbol in the ancient Hebrew meant “owner’s mark”
and was used as a symbol to denote our Father in Heaven’s property or ownership. In ancient healing and coronations, this
owner’s mark was put on various parts of the body so that the recipient would
receive the blessings of the Holy Spirit. Many Christian countries used the
‘tau’ on their nation’s flag.
Back in the 1800s it was well known that ‘the mark’ was the
‘x’ since early Christians who could not sign their name used the ‘x’ as their
mark, as shown here:
I can only find one verse that mentions the tau or thau in
our bible. It is found in the Rheims
Bible that was translated from the 386BC Latin Vulgate:
“And
the Lord said to him: Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of
Jerusalem: and mark
Thau upon the foreheads of the men that sigh, and mourn for all the
abominations that are committed in the midst thereof. And to the others he said
in my hearing: Go ye after him through the city, and strike: let not your eyes
spare, nor be ye moved with pity. Utterly destroy old and young, maidens,
children and women: but upon whomsoever you shall see Thau, kill him not,
and begin ye at my sanctuary. So they began at the ancient men who mere before
the house.” DR Eze 9:4-6
The Septuagint version of the bible just reflects to place a
‘mark’ on the foreheads:
“And
said to him, Go through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that groan and that grieve for all the
iniquities that are done in the midst of them.“ Sep Eze 9:4
Anointing those who are Sick
The Apostles that Jesus sent had the gift of healing by anointing
with oil:
“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick,
raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely
give.” ASV Mat 10:7-8
“And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.”
ASV Mark 6:13
“Is any among you suffering? Let
him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is any among you sick? Let him
call for the elders [G4245
πρεσβυτέρους (presbuterous) an older man or senior] of the
church [G1577 ἐκκλησίας (ekklēsias) an assembly,
congregation, people called out from the world and to God (from 1537 /ek, "out from andto" and 2564 /kaléō, "to call")]; and let them pray over him, anointing [218b
ἀλείψαντες (aleipsantes) ‘to anoint’ from the same root word as lipos (fat,
oil)] him with oil [G1637
ἐλαίῳ (elaiō)] in the name of the Lord [G2962
κυρίου (kuriou) denotes an owner (master), supreme in
authority, controller, by implication Master (as a respectful title)]: and
the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him
up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.” ASV James 5:13-15
“Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem
to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and
departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance a certain priest was going down
that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And in like
manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the
other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when
he saw him, he was moved with compassion, and came to him, and bound up his
wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own
beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.” ASV Luke 10:30-34
Jesus’ Anointing & Preparation for Burial
“Now
when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came unto him
a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment [G3464
μύρῳ (murō) anointing-oil, ointment, perfumed oil from μύρρα (múrrha) according to Athenaeus which means myrrh] , and she poured
it upon his head, as he
sat at meat. But when the disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To
what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much,
and given to the poor. But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye
the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor
always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she poured this ointment upon
my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.” ASV Mat 26:6-12
“My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but she hath anointed my
feet with ointment.” Luke 7:46
“Mary
therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard [G3487
νάρδου (nardou), ointment of nard, spikenard] very precious, and anointed the
feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was
filled with the odor of the ointment.” ASV John 12:3
Above states that Mary anointed Jesus with nard also called
spikenard. According to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spikenard
the ancient Greeks called Lavender ’nardus’.
Also see about American spikenard here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aralia_racemosa.
Jesus was called Christ because he was anointed or chosen by
divine right by our Father in Heaven to be our King and High Priest and his
body was physically anointed as shown in the verses above.
“and
Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ [G5547
χριστός (christos) ‘The Anointed One’].”
ASV Mat 1:16
“Pilate
saith unto them, What then shall I do unto Jesus who is called Christ
[G5547 χριστόν (christon) ‘The Anointed One’]? They all say, Let him be crucified.” ASV Mat 27:22
“even
Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed [G5548
ἔχρισεν (echrisen) to smear or rub with oil, i.e. (by implication) to
consecrate to an office or religious service, anoint] him with the Holy Spirit and with power:
who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil;
for God was with him.” ASV Acts 10:38
Notice (above) that the dictionary definition of Chrismation
states that baptism was done in the form of a cross.
The Western Churches consecrate the Chrism on the Thursday
before Easter and this is called Maundy Thursday. They
say Maundy Thursday is said to commemorate the foot washing service at the Last
Supper; however, the
Last Supper will always fall on Monday each year. The Eastern
Churches consecrate the Chrism on Holy Monday which would be the correct
day of the week for the Last Super. (more

It is not mentioned here; however, Jesus may have been
anointed when he was presented at the temple and given his Christian name.
“And
after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called
JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the
womb. And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses,
were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord: As it
is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called
holy to the Lord: And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the
law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:” ASV Luke
2:21-24
Today many churches baby dedications are performed; however
the babies are not anointed and sprinkled with water. Many Greek churches today still perform
Christening or anointing of their new babies with oil and water. They call it a baby baptism; however, many
believe that baptism cannot happen until you can repent of sin. Therefore, a Christening would be an anointing
with oil, water of purification (Num 8:7), giving of a Christian name and circumcision
if the baby is a boy.

Jesus was to be anointed for burial since this was the
custom of the Judeans. Today we call
this embalming.
“And
when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and
Salome, bought
spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early on
the first day of the week, they come to the tomb when the sun was risen.”
ASV Mark 16:1-2
“And
after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but
secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body
of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.
And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night,
bringing a
mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. So they took the
body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom
of the Judeans is to bury.” ASV John 19:38-40
Anointing in Personal Grooming
Many verses prove that it was part of their culture to
anoint or apply oil to their bodies as part of their daily grooming practices:
“But
do thou
wash, and anoint thyself, and put thy raiment upon thee, and go up
to the threshing-floor: do not discover thyself to the man until he has done
eating and drinking.” Sep Rth 3:3
“And
Elisaie said, What shall I do for thee? tell me what thou hast in the house.
And she said, Thy servant has nothing in the house, except oil wherewith I anoint myself.”
Sep 2Ki 4:2
“And
I washed
thee in water, and washed thy blood from thee, and anointed thee
with oil.” Sep Eze 16:9
“Then she [Susanna] said to her maids, Bring me oil and washing balls,
and shut the garden doors, that I may wash me.” Sep Dan 13:17
“When
they were watching closely for the right moment, Susanna came by, just as she
had the day before and the day before that, alone with her two female servants.
She wanted to bathe in the privacy of the garden, since it was hot. No one was
there except the two elders, who were hidden and spying on her. She said to her
female servants, “Please bring me some olive oil and lotion and lock the gates so I can bathe.” Susanna
1:15-17
“Now
this was the time for a virgin to go into the king, when she should have
fulfilled twelve months; for so are the days of purification fulfilled, six
months while they are anointing themselves with oil of myrrh, and
six months with spices and women's purifications.” Sep Est 2:12
“Girls
who had entered the bridal chamber quite lately, to enjoy the partnership of
marriage, exchanged pleasure for misery; and with dust scattered upon their myrrh-anointed
heads, were hurried along unveiled; and, in the midst of outlandish
insults, set up with one accord a lamentable cry in lieu of the marriage hymn.”
Sep 3Ma 4:6
Therefore oil was used for cleansing the body. Old
fashion bar soap is made from oil. Most soap sold at the grocery store
today is made from detergents and other harsh agents.
No Anointing During Times of Mourning
“And
Joab sent to Thecoe, and took thence a cunning woman, and said to her, Mourn, I
pray thee, and put on mourning apparel, and anoint thee not with oil,
and thou shalt be as a woman mourning for one that is dead thus for many days.”
Sep 2Sa 14:2
“In
those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, and
no flesh or wine entered into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself with oil, until
three whole weeks were accomplished.” Sep Dan 10:2-3
Anointing During Times of Gladness & Joy
“And
pulled off the sackcloth which she had on, and put off the garments of her
widowhood, and washed her body all over with water, and anointed herself with precious ointment,
and braided the hair of her head, and put on a tire upon it, and put on her garments of
gladness, wherewith she was clad during the life of Manasses her
husband.” Sep Jdt 10:3
“Go,
eat thy bread with mirth, and drink thy wine with a joyful heart; for now God has
favourably accepted thy works. Let thy garments be always white; and let not oil be
wanting on thine head.” Sep Ecc 9:7-8
“He
makes grass to grow for the cattle, and green herb for the service of men, to
bring bread out of the earth; and wine makes glad the heart of man, to make his
face cheerful with oil: and bread strengthens man's heart.” Sep
Psa 104:14-15
The Holy Spirit Comes after Anointing
“And Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day
forward: and Samuel arose, and departed to Armathaim.” Sep 1Sa 16:13
“The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed
me; he has sent me to preach glad tidings to the poor, to heal the
broken in heart, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to
the blind; to declare the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of
recompence; to comfort all that mourn; that there should be given to them that
mourn in Sion glory instead of ashes, the oil of joy to the mourners, the
garment of glory for the spirit of heaviness: and they shall be called
generations of righteousness, the planting of the Lord for glory.” Sep Isa
61:1-3
“Now
he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; who also
sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in
our hearts.” ASV 2 Cor 1:21
“Even
Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and
healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” ASV
Acts 10:38
Anointing Priest
These verses show the anointing and the laying on of hands
was practiced in the Old Testament. These verses refer to anointing new
priests.
“And thou shalt take of the anointing oil, and thou shalt pour it on his
head, and shalt anoint him, and thou shalt bring his sons,
and put garments on them. And thou shalt gird them with the girdles, and put
the tires upon them, and they shall have a priestly office to me for ever; and
thou shalt fill the hands of Aaron and the hands of his sons.” Sep Exo
29:7-9
“And Moses poured of the anointing oil on the head of Aaron; and he anointed him
and sanctified
him. And Moses brought the sons of Aaron near, and put on them coast
and girded them with girdles, and put on them bonnets, as the Lord commanded
Moses. And Moses brought near the calf for the sin-offering, and Aaron and his
sons laid
their hands on the head of the calf of the sin-offering.” Sep
Lev 8:12
Reflected in a section below, it shows that the hands of
kings were anointed during the coronation ceremony and the verses below show
that Aaron and his sons hands were anointed.
“And Moses brought the second ram, the ram of consecration [to make something holy],
and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, and he slew him; and Moses took of
his blood, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and on the thumb of
his right hand, and on the great toe of his right foot. And Moses brought near
the sons of Aaron; and Moses put of the blood on the tips of their right ears,
and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the great toes of their right
feet, and Moses poured out the blood on the altar round about. And he took the fat,
and the rump, and the fat on the belly, and the lobe of the liver, and the two
kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder. And from the
basket of consecration, which was before the Lord, he also took one unleavened
loaf, and one loaf made with oil, and one cake; and put them upon the fat,
and the right shoulder: and put them all on the hands of
Aaron, and upon the
hands of his sons, and offered
them up for a wave-offering before the Lord. And Moses took them at their
hands, and Moses offered them on the altar, on the whole-burnt-offering of
consecration, which is a smell of sweet savour: it is a burnt-offering to the
Lord. And Moses took the breast, and separated it for a heave-offering before
the Lord, from the ram of consecration; and it became Moses' portion, as the
Lord commanded Moses. And Moses took of
the anointing
oil, and of the blood that was on the altar, and sprinkled it on
Aaron, and on his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him.”
Sep Lev 8:21-29
Anointing of Kings and High Priests
The verses below show that Kings who were also Priest were
anointed with oil.
“but
of the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; And the sceptre
of uprightness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness,
and hated iniquity; Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee With the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” ASV Heb 1:8-9
“And
Samuel took a vial
of oil, and poured it on his [Saul] head, and kissed him, and said
to him, Has not the Lord anointed thee for
a ruler over his people, over Israel? and thou shalt rule among the people of
the Lord, and thou shalt save them out of the hand of their enemies; and this
shall be the sign to thee that the Lord has anointed thee for a ruler over his inheritance.” Sep 1Sa
10:1
“And
Samuel spoke to the people, saying, Let us go to Galgala [circle
of stones], and there renew the
kingdom. And all the people went to
Galgala, and Samuel anointed Saul there
to be king before the Lord in Galgala, and there he offered meat-offerings and
peace-offerings before the Lord: and Samuel and all Israel rejoiced
exceedingly.” Sep 1Sa 11:14-15
“And
Sadoc [Zadoc] the priest went down, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaeas son of
Jodae, and the Cherethite, and the Phelethite, and they mounted Solomon upon
the mule of king David, and led him away to Gion. And Sadoc the priest took the
horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon, and blew the
trumpet; and all the people said, Let king Solomon live. And all the people
went up after him, and they danced in choirs, and rejoiced with great joy, and
the earth quaked with their voice.” Sep 1Ki 1:38-40
“And
Elisaie the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him,
Gird up thy loins, and take this cruse of oil in
thy hand, and go to Remmoth Galaad. And thou shalt enter there, and shalt see
there Ju the son of Josaphat son of Namessi, and shalt go in and make him rise
up from among his brethren, and shalt bring him into a secret chamber. And thou
shalt take the cruse
of oil, and pour it on his head, and say thou, Thus saith
the Lord, I have anointed thee king over
Israel: and thou shalt open the door, and flee, and not tarry. And the young
man the prophet went to Remmoth Galaad. And he went in, and, behold, the captains
of the host were sitting; and he said, I have a message to thee, O captain. And
Ju said, To which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain. And he arose, and
went into the house: and he poured the oil upon his head, and said to him,
Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I have anointed thee to be king over the people of the Lord, even over Israel.”
Sep 2Ki 9:1-6
“And
all the elders of Israel came to the king to Chebron; and king David made a
covenant with them in Chebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by
Samuel.” Sep 1Ch 11:3
“And he brought out the king's son, and put on him the crown and the
testimony, and Jodae the priest and his sons proclaimed him king, and anointed him,
and said, Long live the king!” Sep 2Ch 23:11
“Thus
saith the Lord God to my anointed Cyrus, whose right hand I have held,
that nations might be obedient before him; and I will break through the
strength of kings; I will open doors before him, and cities shall not be
closed.” Sep Isa 45:1
Holy Anointing Oil
Our Father in Heaven instructed Moses to make holy anointing
oil for the tabernacle, the holy items in the tabernacle and the Levitical
priests. This recipe is holy and never
to be used for daily personal grooming.
“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Do thou also take sweet herbs, the
flower of choice myrrh five hundred shekels, and the half of this two hundred
and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty shekels
of sweet-smelling calamus, and of cassia five hundred shekels of the sanctuary,
and a hin of olive oil. And thou shalt make it a holy anointing oil, a perfumed
ointment tempered by the art of
the perfumer: it shall be a holy anointing oil. And thou shalt anoint with it the tabernacle of witness, and the ark of the
tabernacle of witness, and all its furniture, and the candlestick and all its
furniture, and the altar of incense, and the altar of whole burnt-offerings and
all its furniture, and the table and all its furniture, and the laver. And thou
shalt sanctify them, and they shall be most holy: every one that touches them
shall be hallowed. And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and sanctify them
that they may minister to me as priests. And thou shalt speak to the children
of Israel, saying, This shall be to you a holy anointing oil throughout your generations.
On man's flesh it shall not be poured, and ye shall not make any for yourselves
according to this composition: it is holy, and shall be holiness to you. Whosoever
shall make it in like manner, and whosoever shall give of it to a stranger,
shall be destroyed from among his people. And the Lord said to Moses, Take for
thyself sweet herbs, stacte, onycha, sweet galbanum, and transparent
frankincense; there shall be and equal weight of each. And they shall make with
it perfumed incense, tempered with the art of a perfumer, a pure holy work. And
of these thou shalt beat some small, and thou shalt put it before the
testimonies in the tabernacle of testimony, whence I will make myself known to
thee: it shall be to you a most holy incense. Ye shall not make any for yourselves according to this composition; it shall be to you
a holy thing for the Lord. Whosoever shall make any in like manner, so as to
smell it, shall perish from his people.” Sep Exo 30:22-38
Anointing the Tabernacle
Our Father in Heaven requested that Moses anoint the
tabernacle and the items in the tabernacle.
“And it came to pass in the day in which Moses finished the setting-up
of the tabernacle, that he anointed it, and consecrated it, and all its
furniture, and the altar and all its furniture, he even anointed them, and consecrated
them.” Sep Num 7:1
“This was the dedication of the altar in the day in which Moses anointed it,
by the princes of the sons of Israel; twelve silver chargers, twelve silver
bowls, twelve golden censers: each charger of a hundred and thirty shekels, and
each bowl of seventy shekels: all the silver of the vessels was two thousand
four hundred shekels, the shekels according to the holy shekel.” Sep Num
7:84-85
The New Testament tells us that our bodies are tabernacles;
therefore they should be anointed with oil as the tabernacle in the wilderness
was.
“For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a
house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. For verily in this we
groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven: if
so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For indeed we that are in
this tabernacle
do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would
be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life. Now he that
wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the
Spirit.” ASV 2 Cor 5:1-5
His people called ‘The Anointed’
Several verses do reflect that our Father in Heaven’s people
arecalled ‘the anointed’ ones; therefore now called Christians.
“Thou
wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, to save thine anointed: thou shalt bring
death on the heads of transgressors; thou has brought bands upon their neck.” Sep
Hab 3:13
“And
ye have an
anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all the things. I have not
written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and
because no lie is of the truth.” ASV 1 John 2:20-21
“And as for you, the anointing
which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one
teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you; concerning all things, and is
true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.” 1 John
2:27
“The
Lord is the strength of his people, and the saving defender of his anointed.”
Sep Psa 28:8
“He
suffered no man to wrong them; and he rebuked kings for their sakes: saying, Touch not my
anointed ones; and do my prophets no harm.” Sep Psa 105:14-15
“And
I asked the second time, and said to him, What are the two branches of the
olive-trees that are by the side of the two golden pipes that pour into and
communicate with the golden oil funnels? And he said to me, Knowest thou not
what these are? and I said, No, my lord. And he said, These are the two
anointed ones that stand by the
Lord of the whole earth.” Sep Zec 4:12-14
Anointed Unleavened Cakes
Our Father in Heaven’s chosen bread for all Feast days,
except the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), is unleavened bread that must be
anointed with oil. When we put butter or
oils on bread we are anointing the bread.
“And
if he bring as a gift a sacrifice baked from the oven, a gift to the Lord of
fine flour, he shall bring unleavened bread kneaded with oil, and unleavened
cakes anointed
with oil. And if thy gift be a sacrifice from a pan, it is fine
flour mingled with oil, unleavened offerings. And thou shalt break them into
fragments and pour
oil upon them: it is a sacrifice
to the Lord. And if thy gift be a sacrifice from the hearth, it shall be made
of fine flour with oil.” Sep Lev 2:4-7
“This
is the law of the sacrifice of peace-offering, which they shall bring to the
Lord. If a man should offer it for praise, then shall he bring, for the
sacrifice of praise, loaves of fine flour made up with oil, and unleavened cakes anointed with
oil, and fine flour kneaded with oil.” Sep Lev 7:1-2

The Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer
Part II. Laying on of Hands and Anointing
If oil for the Anointing of the Sick is to be blessed, the
Priest says O Lord, holy Father, giver of health and salvation:
Send your Holy Spirit to sanctify this oil; that, as your holy
apostles anointed many that were sick and healed them, so may those who in
faith and repentance receive this holy unction be made whole; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The following anthem is said Savior of the world, by your
cross and precious blood you have redeemed us;
Save us, and help us, we humbly
beseech you, O Lord. The Priest then lays hands upon the sick person, and says
one of the following
N., I lay my hands upon you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit, beseeching our Lord Jesus Christ to sustain you with
his presence, to drive away all sickness of body and spirit, and to give you
that victory of life and peace which will enable you to serve him both now and
evermore. Amen.
or this
N., I lay my hands upon you in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
beseeching him to uphold you and fill you with his grace, that you may know the
healing power of his love. Amen.
If the person is to be anointed, the Priest dips a thumb in
the holy oil, and makes the sign of the cross on the sick person’s forehead,
saying
N., I anoint you with oil in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Priest may add
As you are outwardly anointed with this
holy oil, so may our heavenly Father grant you the inward anointing of the Holy
Spirit. Of his great mercy, may he forgive you your sins, release
you from suffering, and restore you to wholeness and strength. May he deliver
you from all evil, preserve you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting
life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
In cases of necessity, a deacon or lay person may perform
the anointing, using oil blessed by a bishop or priest. If Communion is not to
follow, the Lord’s Prayer is now said. The Priest concludes
The Almighty Lord, who is a strong
tower to all who put their trust in him, to whom all things in heaven, on
earth, and under the earth bow and obey: Be now and evermore your defense, and
make you know and feel that the only Name under heaven given for health and
salvation is the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lamp Oil for the Tabernacle
The lamp that sat next to the Ark of the Covenant was to be
burning from evening until morning so that the Ark of the Covenant was never in
darkness. Notice that the children of
Israel were to keep this law forever.
“And
do thou charge
the children of Israel, and let them take for thee refined pure olive-oil beaten to burn for light, that a lamp may burn
continually in the tabernacle of the testimony, without the veil
that is before
the ark of the covenant, shall Aaron and his sons burn it from
evening until morning, before the Lord: it is a perpetual ordinance throughout your generations
of the children of Israel.” Sep Exo 27:20-21
“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Charge the children of Israel,
and let them take for thee pure olive oil beaten
for the light, to burn a lamp continually, outside the veil in
the tabernacle of witness; and Aaron and his sons shall burn it from evening
until morning before the Lord continually, a perpetual statute throughout your generations.”
Sep Lev 24:1-3
Since our bodies are tabernacles where the Holy Spirit
resides we are to be the ones that keeps the light on the laws of Moses; the
contents of the Ark of the Covenant.
“Then
shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their
lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were foolish,
and five were wise. For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil
with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Now while
the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there is
a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him. Then all those
virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise,
Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out. But the wise answered,
saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to
them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went away to buy, the
bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage
feast: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying,
Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.” ASV Mat 25:1-13
Since the oil burning represents that Holy Spirit within us,
this oil is not for sell. Our
bridegroom, Jesus, will only allow those that have the gift of the Holy Spirit and
keep the light shining on HIS laws enter the kingdom.
“Even
so let your
light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father who is in heaven.” ASV Mat 15:16
Oils
Our Father in Heaven chose oils for anointing since they are
very good for your skin plus many are good for internal use. It is important to use organic oils that are
not GMO (Canola oil) since our Father in Heaven did not make GMO oils. The best oils are real butter, coconut oil,
olive oil and palm oil. Natural oils do
contain sun protection; therefore they slow down the chances of getting a sun
burn.
Oils contain vitamin E; therefore they do aid in healing and
making your skin real nice. The vitamin
E found in natural oil is a preservative that will preserve your skin and food
also. Olive Oil has been used for
centuries to preserve food.
Only oils that can be eaten should be used on your skin
since anything put on your skin absorbs right into your blood stream and that
is why we are not to even touch a pig or pork. Hormone replacement patches are
a good example of how just applying a patch causes the hormones to be absorbed
into your blood stream.
“And
the swine,
because this animal divides the hoof, and makes claws of the hoof, and it does
not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, and ye shall not
touch their carcases; these are unclean to you.” Sep Lev 11:7-8
There are more verses and laws about not touching unclean
things here: https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/Touching-Unclean-Things
It was prophesied that Jesus Christ would eat butter which
is made from milk fat; therefore fat or oils must be important.
“Therefore
the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the
womb, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel. Butter
and honey shall he eat, before he knows either to prefer evil or choose the
good.” Sep-15 Isa 7:14
Healthy fats and oils are essential for brain power!
Conclusion
So why don’t most of the churches teach and practice the old
anointing practices for the sick, dying and the coronation? Maybe because we have many false prophets
teaching the churches that do not have the gift of the Holy Spirit; therefore
they cannot give the blessings of the Holy Spirit.
I am very grateful that I have now learned more information
about our past Christian culture. I do
pray that this information is a blessing to all that receive it. Praise our Father who is in Heaven!
